The project is scheduled to be completed by June next year but people will be able to travel to Cox’s Bazar by train from December 2022. The Minister said.

The project will be extended from Cox’s Bazar to Gundam near Myanmar via Ramu, which will be extended to China in the future, he added.

The six-story Cox’s Bazar Railway station building is being built at a cost of Tk 215 Crore.

The project will ease tourism to Cox’s Bazar, triggering a boost in the Socio-economic condition of the region,

BR will provide secure, comfortable, and cheap transportation for commuters. Besides, it will facilities cheap and easy transportation of fish, raw materials of paper, forest, and Agriculture products.

The 128-kilometer railway route will have nine railway stations dotting the way, at Satkania, Lohagora, Chakaria, Dulhazra Eidgao, Ramu, Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ukhiya & Ghumdum.

All the railway stations will have a Computer-Based interlock signal system and digital communication system.

Moreover, three large bridges will be built over the Sangu, Matamuhuri, and Bankhali rivers, along with 43 small bridges, 201 culverts, and 144 level crossings.

Two highway crossings will be constructed in Ramu and Cox’s Bazar and the flyover at the Kewchiya area of Satkania.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation of the railway project in April 2011 and the budget for the railway project was fixed at TK 18.35 35 crores.

A total of 88 kilometers of rail track will be installed from Dohazari to Ramu,12 kilometers from Ramu to Cox’s Bazar, and 28 kilometers from Ramu to Ghumdum.
